CHAPTER ONE

NERVANA REVISITED

The shadows began to move across the plastered ceiling………..Living within dreams as they advanced without consciousness, and then becoming transfixed in a moment in time, blending in with the dark rooms of his apartment. Desmond pulled the strap around his arm tightly as white teeth gently clenched a steel and glass injection, his muscles became strained as blue veins began to rise just under the surface of the skin. He was once again becoming the pale serpent. The dead glow whiteness of his naked body was a shocking reminder in contrast, against the dark brown leather of the wingback chair in which he reclined………..A solitary piece of furniture in the bleakness of a foreboding landscape.

James entered the room; his gaunt face was gray and drawn, framed with the deep lines of non- expression. His bloodshot eyes looked forward as he approached Desmond, "will there be anything else tonight?"……….."Sir." His voice poured into the silence like the deep hum of a distant radio. Desmond said nothing as his dresser took the remnants of his addiction and placed them on a small tray, then slowly handed his master a dry martini, careful not to spill its contents. His lips began to crack slightly as he forced a crooked smile, then bowed and backed up into the darkness, disappearing through a distant doorway.

The euphoria surrounded him in its symphony of delusions………..Her black lips teased at his nipples with soft persuasion, moving along his flesh like an angel of death. She took hold of his soul………….Willing to tear him apart with her dark sanctuary, and he, always finding himself needing more………………He took her pale face into his hands and drew her lips close to his and kissed her deeply, her tongue found his as she gently toyed with it, then with sudden violence sucked it deep into her mouth……………The pain overwhelmed him as he felt her sharp teeth severing the soft flesh, he drew back and looked into her glassy red eyes, and then laughed to himself as she gave him a bloody smile. He stood up and drank the rest of his martini, and leaving his soul behind, walked towards his bedroom chamber……………..
